Court of the place of residence or birth of the person concerned

Requirements

– Adult or emancipated minor

– Free and informed consent (verified by judge)

– Proof that gender identity differs from birth certificate through any means:

  • Witness statements (family, friends, and colleagues)
  • Evidence of public life in affirmed gender
  • Change of forename to match affirmed gender

Procedure

1. Application by petition (no lawyer required)

2. Judge examines case file

3. Optional hearing if additional information needed

4. Judicial verification of free and informed consent

5. If married, specific permission needed from public prosecutor to maintain marriage

7. Name change possible after decision becomes final
