Legal Framework

– No specific comprehensive law on gender recognition procedures
Competent Authority

Courts
Requirements
– Medical determination of transsexuality
– No mandatory surgery requirement
Procedure
An individual desiring to modify their gender marker approaches the civil registry with a request to update the records accordingly. Upon obtaining a denial, they can proceed to contest the decision in court. The courts do not mandate gender reassignment surgery in order to modify civil status records; rather, they rely solely on a medical determination of transsexuality and the individual’s self-identification, and recognition of their preferred gender.
