Requirements
General Process (16+ years):
– Spanish nationality
– Declaration of intent
– No medical or psychological reports required
– No physical transition requirements
– No evidence of social transition needed
Age-specific Requirements:
– 16-18 years: Can apply independently
– 14-16 years: Requires parental representation
– 12-14 years: Special judicial procedure
– Under 12: Name change only, with gender identity recognition in documentation
Procedure
Standard Process (Four Phases):
1. Initial Request:
– Submission to any Civil Registry Office
2. First Appearance:
– Express dissatisfaction with current legal gender
– Receive information about process
– Reaffirm initial intent
3. Waiting Period:
– Maximum 3 months before second appearance
4. Final Phase:
– Second appearance to confirm intent
– Decision within one month
Special Procedures:
– Ages 12-14: Judicial verification of maturity and stability
– Third-time changes: Additional judicial process required
